The Association of English-language Publishers of Quebec (AELAQ) has about 22 members who work together on marketing initiatives and participate in seminars on publishing issues. The AELAQ puts out the Montreal Review of Books three times a year.

Established in 1976, PWAC is the national organization representing over 600 professional freelance writers and journalists in Canada. The Quebec Chapter of PWAC organizes workshops and other social and professional development activities for freelance writers in the province.

Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network (QAHN)

The Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network is a non-profit, non-partisan umbrella group whose mission is to help advance the knowledge of the history and culture of English-speaking society in Quebec. Members receive a subscription to Quebec Heritage News, a bimonthly English-language magazine.

Other Mechanics' Institutes Around the World

The Atwater Library and Computer Centre was founded in 1828 as the Mechanics' Institute of Montreal, part of a progressive adult education movement that started in Scotland and spread around the English-speaking world. Mechanics' institutes (the Glasgow name) and mechanics' schools of arts (the Edinburgh name) were established in practically every town in Australia and hundreds of them are still operating.

The president of the Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts, Dr. Roger Morris, visited the ALCC on October 5, 2007. Several ALCC board members and volunteers attended a welcoming reception, at which Dr. Morris spoke about the history of the Sydney organization.
