Natasha Kanapé Fontaine

Mémoire d’encrier

Natasha Kanapé Fontaine is an Innu poet from Pessamit. She is the author of three books of poetry. N’entre pas dans mon âme avec tes chaussures (Don’t enter my soul with your shoes,) (Éditions Mémoire d’encrier, 2012) won the Prix des Écrivains francophones d’Amérique in 2013. Manifeste Assi (Éditions Mémoire d’encrier, 2014,) was a finalist for the Prix Émile-Nelligan in 2015. Her most recent book is Bleuets et abricots (Blueberries and apricots,) (Mémoire d’encrier, 2016.)

A proud representative of the Canada-wide Aboriginal movement Idle No More, she travels throughout Quebec, Canada and to other countries as a poet and public speaker. The message she carries is the meeting of peoples and cultures, respect, exchange and dialogue, under the auspices of dignity and humanity.
