MARK CALLANAN is an emerging Newfoundland poet, as well as a book reviewer and editor. Scarecrow (Killick, 2003) was shortlisted for the Newfoundland and Labrador Book Award, and a recent chapbook, Sea Legend (Frog Hollow, 2010) was shortlisted for the prestigious bpNichol Chapbook Poetry Award. Callanan’s work riffs on other writers’ work, wrestles with the natural world, and displays an impressive, muscular lyricism. His second collection of poems is Gift Horse (Signal Editions, 2011), which was recently shortlisted for the Winterset award.
