An Exciting Year Ahead

The Atwater Library team is now preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of our beautiful building, which took place on January 30, 1920. Our organization, then known as The Mechanics’ Institute of Montreal, moved from our first building at 360 St. James Street, now 360 St-Jacques O. in Old Montreal.

We’re also eagerly looking forward to the completion of renovations to make our building accessible to people with physical disabilities. An elevator is about to be installed and this spring, we will have an operating elevator and a new wheelchair entrance!

On THURSDAY, January 30, 2020 at 12:30 pm, you’re all invited to a centenary event in our auditorium. Consultant, teacher and author Nancy Dunton is going to trace the building’s history and comment on its architectural significance. And architect Nathan Bonneville is giving a presentation on the current elevator-accessibility project and answering questions. Please save the date!
